“A tool is but the extension of a man’s hand, and a machine is but a complex tool. He that invents a machine augments the power of a man and the well being of mankind.” – Henry Ward Beecher
I have many different CI tools and methods available to me. 6 sigma black belt is one of my tools. Here is a black belt project I did to reduce the amount of inspection labor needed without sacrificing quality. Saving $111,000 annually. Here is a system I created for Quality to audit what truly needs to be audited. The idea was a fast-changing audit plan. We all know we cannot check everything all the time.
In the way I used this, the inspection plan changed every shift. If a new operator was put on a production line that is brand new, we would call this a red on red situation. These situations should take priority of other inspection areas. From this you could build an evolving risk system to put the eyes where they need to be. Operator Resource Index is a system I created to quantify a level of automation in a process. Basically, how much of a person’s time is needed to keep this process running.
An ORI of 0 means the process is 100% automatic. No operator interaction at all. This can help with process planning and help to highlight areas that might need improvements.
If you would like to read more on this, go here. Operator Resource Index
Here is another system to help teams make a decision on an improvement project. Of course, this is just one tool to be used with others.
The idea is a process at $0 is performing exactly as it was designed to do. Any losses or gains from this point are recorded. Improvement or waste will cause the RQCI to change over time.
The chart above is a list of every process in a sample organization. This is plotted out with the worst to the best performing processes. Improvements on Part C and D would be more appetizing than for Parts A and B. Make your improvements. Rinse and repeat.

Here is a proposal for a CI project I did for a Wharton University of Pennsylvania class. AI in business is not perfect, but it can stack the odds in your favor as long as you understand what to look for. The complete proposal Business memo ai for hr proposal is here.
